Momentum Initiative: Website Design and Content Development

Our team of 2 designers and 3 transportation planners was tasked to create a unifying website for a variety of international DOT projects; the website would provide users with details about the Momentum program, program resources, and contact information. The intended audience for this platform is existing and new partners, who would like to know more about the Momentum program. The timeframe for this project was 6 weeks.

Design Lead, Design Content Contributor

The team held regular meetings with the client, including the project managers of different programs whose project's are a part of the Momentum program. The initial meetings were spent understanding the audience and their needs, which include plain language that can be translated easily by a web browser, images with diverse people and international locations, and meaningful subpages that contain different types of resources.

The team brainstormed using sticky notes to understand the tasks and categorize these tasks. Then, they sketched a basic wireframe with a layout for the website and the client and participating stakeholders discussed the successful elements of the layout and brainstormed the appropriate subpages. From there, the team developed content for each subpage, which was then reviewed and edited by the client. While the content was drafted, the team also developed a high-fidelity wireframe of the website with sample images; the team received additional feedback on the layout and images. Throughout the process, the team also coordinated with the DOT's web development team to understand the constraints of the content management system's layout.

The client also requested that team developed an introductory video of the Momentum program featuring the Secretary of Transportation, which could be featured on the landing page and also used in social media posts.
